History

Group of early Victorian buildings and one 18th century.

37 was built as National School 1893 to replace a girl’s school built in 1840s. 300 pupils with infants on the ground floor and girls on the 1st floor. Lavatories were at the back of the playground.

Closed 1931 after the opening of Brentford Secondary Modern School (now Brentford School for Girls). Was a Youth Club for many years and now a pre-school nursery.

  1. I was a pupil at the above school around 1953-55 and trying to locate a good friend of mine called Raymond Bemmer. Now I am in my early 80’s so the chances of Ray still being alive may be slim, to say the least. We used to play at the old Carter Patterson field that was home to scores of old wagons from the horse and cart days. He lived in Brentford and I lived in Acton W3 close to Gunnersbury Park. I recall feeling jealous because his parents had the new ITV on TV and my folk would have none of it prefering Aunty BBC? Any help regards locating Ray or his history from a family member would be welcome, Regards David Ayton

Good morning David, I lived in Brentford in the 1950’s and whilst browsing through about memories of Brentford I came across your letter you posted I also belong to Ancestry.com so I punched Raymond’s name in and it came back Raymond Bemmer born 22nd April 1942 Died October 1997 Hounslow so sorry to be the bearing of bad news.
