Victorian Shops

(now cottages) Windmill Road Shops built around 19th century, now residences. History Row of Victorian shops that are now cottages. They seem to be three stories high at the back as it seems the road level was raised to build the railway bridge in the 1840s. Built in 19th century as residential above shops. Now vacant Locally Listed as “56 Kew Bridge Rd, plus numbers 57-60 Kew Bridge Rd”. In Kew Bridge Conservation Area. In Thames Policy Area.

History

“Four 18th century houses needing interior inspection” (EH 2000).

Although these buildings are not listed, they match the adjacent 18th century buildings which are statutorily listed and give us an idea of the High Street pre 1960s. Continue reading “131-134 High Street”

Originally built as shops, now includes post office. In Thames Policy Area History Buildings form a group with decoration above. Was clearly a building of some importance due to decoration.
